The following 9 are Kids Count Data Book indicators and are updated for the U.S. by race. The tenth in the list, Children in single-parent families is a new indicator, and therefore is newly profiled for the U.S. by race.
• Low-birthweight babies, by Race (Health section)
• Infant mortality, by Race (Health section)
• Child deaths, by Race (Health section)
• Teen deaths, by Race (Health section)
• Teen births, by Race (Health section)
• Teens who are high school dropouts, by Race (Education section)
• Teens not attending school and not working, by Race (Youth Risk section)
• Children living in families where no parent has full-time, year-round employment, by Race
(Employment and Income section)
• Children in poverty (100%), by Race (Poverty section)
• Children in single-parent families, by Race (Population and Family Characteristics section)
The KIDS COUNT overall rank has been updated to reflect results from the 2006 Data Book.

| There are currently ten KIDS COUNT measures: percent low birth-weight babies; infant mortality rate; child death rate; rate of teen deaths by accident, homicide, and suicide; teen birth rate; percent of children living with parents who do not have full-time, year-round employment; percent of teens who are high school dropouts; percent of teens not attending school and not working; percent of children in poverty; and percent of families with children headed by a single-parent. The Data Book also provides background information for each state, including demographic and family income data. |
